I have been in a weird mood lately. I don't know if it's all the reading I have been doing or self reflection about who I am as a person. All I know is that I think it is time for me to change. I have always thought that once you get older and more mature that people will still listen to you, no matter what your personality is. I believe that younger me is now just wrong. The only way people will listen to you is if you act and look dignified and confident, rather than childish and naive. I think it will need to start out with a wardrobe change, because that is the easiest but most expensive way to become a more trusted person. Part two of my change will be to practice some new vocabulary words but not become to much of a prick wanting to use big words that eventually just confuses people. Only then will be complacent with who I am as a person.
On a different note, I'm thinking about writing a story. I have a growing love of astronomy and the vastness of space to realize that anything is possible on another universe. It's hard to even realize how small we are compared to everything. We are practically ants to Jupiter's eyes. Now that probably isn't accurate, but our home we call Earth is still smaller that billions of other planets that live in their own solar systems. I find it highly illogical to think that we are the only ones in this universe. There is way to much possibilites to be alone. For all I know, I could have a person/alien that is exactly like me thousands of astronomical units away. There could be an exact replica on Earth a couple thousand astronomical units away. Our universe is just that vast and it still boggles my mind.
Anyways about the story. It's still in the beginning stages of being thought out about the setting of which it will take place in. The vastness of space and possibilities of what could be there is my budding idea. As of right now, I don't have a name of my planet but it has the same characteristics of Earth but there are only two continents named Heros and Bonum. Each have their own capital city and advanced civilization. I can't wait to start plotting out the people and my main story because I have so many possibilities!

Wow it has been awhile.....
Summer has almost come to a close. Only one more month left until I go back to school. It's crazy to think I'm going to be a second year college student. It felt like just yesterday was learning about Redlands and all the cool things they have to offer. I was a freshman who didn't know anything about how much my life would change, whether I knew it or not. To keep my creative juices flowing, I have been reading quite a lot and now have taken up drawing and sketching. I'm still not very good at it yet, but in due time I will be able to draw as good as possible. Probably not professionally, but more as a fun hobby.
I might not be in my realm right now, but I just want to vent somewhere on some of my beliefs. I know that many people are up in arms against Chick-Fil-A with the whole anti-gay marriage thing in which my response is, "Why?" Now I for gay marriage and whatever the owner believes is his own. But what good is going to come out of not eating at a Chick-Fil-A? It's pointless. I'm a lover of food so if I could, I would still eat at his restaurant not because I would supposedly support his stance, but because I'm hungry and want to eat food. People should not be stopping others from not eating because one guy's stance on gay marriage doesn't agree with yours.
But now, in my opinion, this whole argument about gay marriage is just reminding me of the civil rights movement. It is utterly disheartening that two people who are in love can't marry. What difference does it make in your life? To me, it's another disappointment in the human race. People will look back on us through their history books and say, "Really? That should have been over with sooner." As time goes on, I do think that the human race will eventually be like in the movie "Idiocracy".

Awesome Rest Week
It has been a week since school has ended (well, for me at least). Its one of those weeks where you just need to decompress from school and work before you get back into life. No better way to end the week of rest by listening to music, surfing the internet, and playing Pokèmon. By next week, I shall start back on my practice schedule. I have an important year ahead of me academically and performing wise. Next year decides if I should stay a BM in Performance or lower me to a BA in Performance.

DCI
Since my freshman year of high school, I have always wanted to join Drum Corps International. There have been two corps I have really wanted to join, the Santa Clara Vanguard and the Cavaliers. For the past week I have been listening to DCI music religiously. I would encourage everyone and their brother/sister to go and watch a tournament. I have been to one last year (hoping to go again this year!) and watch the semifinals in theater and I can tell you from experience of auditioning for SCV that it is the most amazing experience. I have never heard such power from music in my life. I really hope to go watch the Vanguard's show this year because the music selection they have is just amazing.

Hello World...
So I have heard stories about blogging and how some people can make their voices heard through blogs but I could never truly understand how it could be possible. I have decided, after reading another friend create a blog, that I wanted to try it out too. This first post might be a bit boring so my plan is to give a quick bio and maybe share things that some people might not know from first glance.
As you can see from the title that I am a musician. I have started playing music since the 4th grade because, well, we were forced into it. We had to either choose between playing a string instrument (violin, viola, or cello) or be a singer. Nine-year-old Alex decided the obvious answer was a string instrument. But as I think on it now, I could have been a pretty good singer. After that first year of playing violin, I also decided that I hated it. Fortunately we could go on to try wind instruments in 5th grade. They showed all the instruments we could play and when it came to the trombone, I fell in love. nine years later, I am now in college doing what I love, playing trombone for two groups, the University of Redlands Symphonic Band and the U of R Studio Big Band.
Not only am I a band nerd, I also love to play sports. I have played a lot of the big sports like basketball, flag football, pick-up soccer, and when I was younger I played Little League Baseball for 7 years. I tried out for my high school team but was cut, so I moved on to lacrosse. I now have played as a lacrosse goalie for four years, soon to be five, and was good enough to make it into a club team, the OC Starz. Unfortunately we lost in the finals because we didn't have enough players to keep us not fatigued. Last semester, I also participated in our Ultimate Frisbee team on campus. I have played in tourneys in UCI and SDSU. I wasn't very good but I could hold my own for a couple of points. On my free time at home, I love to disc golf. It's extremely relaxing to me and I love playing with people I don't know.
In the end, I'm excited for the future of this blog and hope you guys and girls enjoy reading!
